Juan Bautista Alberdi


Today we remember 200 years of Alberdi's birth.
He was born in Tucuman in 1810. He was political, writer and lawyer. He resided from very young in Buenos Aires. He participed in the foundation of the Literary Lounge and the Association of May with Esteban Echeverria.
He founded The Mode newspaper and he composed some musical pieces.
He concluded his studies of law in Montevideo in 1840. He stayed in Valparaiso (Chile), where he devoted to be lawyer, but without leaving the literature and the journalism.
In 1852 he wrote Bases for the Political Organization of the Federation Argentina, practically a "draft" of the National Constitution Argentina of 1853. He was adhered to the Federation and faced the politics of Buenos Aires, in 1855 he was nominated a counselor of the government of the general Justo Jose de Urquiza.
Bartolomé Mitre defeated Urquiza in the battle of Pavón (1861), it forced Alberdi to prolong his exile, remaining in France. He returned to Argentina for a brief period of time but he returned to France, where he died on July 19, 1884.
